Roots blowers are a type of positive displacement blower. The operating principle involves two lobed rotors moving in opposite directions within a cylinder to compress and transport gas, functioning as a rotary compressor. These blowers feature a simple structure and are easy to manufacture. A lot of industries use roots blowers, such as oxygenation in aquaculture, aeration in wastewater treatment, and cement transportation. Additionally, they are particularly suitable for gas transfer and pressurization systems in low-pressure scenarios and can also be used as vacuum pumps. To ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Roots blower, the client or the user needs to carry out the following commissioning Procedure.
1. Equipment Installation Check
Ensure that the Roots blower is securely installed, all fasteners are properly tightened, and no loose components are present.
2. Lubricating Oil Check
Verify that the oil tank has been filled with the specified lubricating oil and that the oil level has reached the oil gauge mark.
3. Pipeline Inspection
Confirm that all valves in the blower pipeline are fully open. Perform manual rotation of the blower (hand cranking) to ensure smooth movement. Keep the vent valve open (for soft-start or frequency-converter start modes, no need the vent valve).
4. Motor Rotation Direction Check
Without load, connect the power supply and start the blower. Check whether the motor’s rotation direction is correct.
5. Preparation for No-Load Operation
Start the blower for no-load operation. Before starting, thoroughly clean any welding slag, debris, or dust from the outlet pipeline. Use the blower’s no-load operation to blow out remaining debris from the pipeline. After starting the blower, immediately check lubrication status and listen for abnormal noises or overheating. If any abnormalities are detected, stop the machine immediately for inspection.
6. No-Load Operation Inspection
Allow the blower to operate under no-load conditions for 30 minutes to 1 hour. If no issues are observed, proceed to gradually apply load:
Slowly close the vent valve to allow the blower to integrate into the system.
Alternatively, use frequency conversion to gradually adjust the blower to its normal working state.
Monitor the pressure gauge on the outlet pipeline and ensure that the pressure does not exceed the rated value on the nameplate.
7. Current and Vibration Monitoring
Observe the ammeter to ensure that the current does not exceed the rated value. Simultaneously monitor the blower’s temperature and vibration levels. If any abnormalities are detected, stop the machine immediately for inspection.
8. Full-Load Operation
Once everything is confirmed to be normal, close the vent valve to allow the blower to enter full-load operation. During operation, pay special attention to the following:
Temperature of the casing, oil tank, and exhaust parts
Overall vibration of the blower
Stability of the ammeter reading
9. Operation Integration
After 1 hour of full-load operation, if no abnormalities are observed, the equipment can be safely integrated into the system for normal operation.
10. Pipeline Inspection
During operation, periodically inspect the pipeline and its components for air leakage or loose connections. Address any issues promptly.
11. Shutdown Procedure
For shutdown, first fully open the vent valve and ensure it is completely open. Then, use the stop button on the operation control panel to turn off the equipment.
